DEAN WATCHED THE WOMAN he loved run away from him after kissing him like he was all she ever wanted in this world.
Fuck.
They were all making such a disaster out of this. First Flynn made her scream with pleasure, then Gavin spilled half the beans, and now he’d kissed her.
Idiots, the lot of them.
Perry’s death had snapped the hold that had kept them away from her all these years. Not because they didn’t need to worry about Perry’s permission or blessing or whatever the hell they’d hoped for. But because they were all desperate to remember they were alive even if one of their favorite people wasn’t anymore. They were all struggling with misery and grief, so their decision making skills were shit at the moment.
Dean slumped back over to their table, not looking forward to explaining where their girl went.
Gavin and Flynn looked up from their conversation when Dean sank into the chair Poppy had been using.
“She left.’
Flynn jerked back. “What? Then why the hell are we still here?”
“She needed a little space from us.”
“Why?” Gavin asked.
Dean groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Because I’m as big of an idiot as the two of you.”
“What did you do?” Gavin’s eyes narrowed into slits.
“Kissed her.” Dean was half-hard still after the kiss and having her in his arms for their too few dances.
A man he vaguely recognized sat across the bar, staring at them. When Dean met his eyes, the guy looked away. Dean couldn’t pinpoint where he knew him from, but he had bigger things to worry about at the moment.
Gavin swore and drained his drink. “Bit of a hypocrite, aren’t you?”
“Yeah. She asked me to. What the hell was I supposed to do?” Dean was incapable of denying her when she looked at him with such want and need.
“Shit. What the hell are we doing?” Flynn rubbed his face.
Dean ran his finger though the drops of water on the table, drawing designs with the condensation. “I told her we’d explain everything in the morning.”
A sad smile twisted Gavin’s lips. “Family meeting?”
Dean cleared the pain from his throat. “Yeah.”
Flynn groaned. “She’s going to run.”
Dean had the same dread. “If she does, we’re going to have to let her. She’s in no condition to make decisions like this and neither are we. But I’m afraid if we don’t explain, we’ll lose her completely.”
“We may either way.” Gavin stared glumly into his empty glass.
Which was the exact fear that had held them back for so long. And a respect for Perry, since he was so adamantly against it even though he’d recently started coming around. They’d planned to wear him down over time. It felt wrong, like they were doing it behind his back now that he was no longer here to disapprove.
